UGC (University Grant Commission) has given a good shock to many Engineering Colleges. The colleges will not be allowed to increase the seats available and also the task of giving affiliation to new Engineering Colleges will be stopped for a year.
According to this new rule, now no affiliation will be given to new Engineering Colleges by UGC for a year. Also, the colleges will be forbidden to increase the number of Engineering seats in their colleges. The UGC has issued this notification to all the universities.
UGC along with AICTE enquired the data related to Technical education and Enrollment. In the last few years it has been found that since the last few years the number of new colleges are increasing but the vacant seats are also increasing.
UPTU (formerly GBTU and MTU) has also experienced the same situation. In the last two years, more than 30000 seats increases but annually almost 40% seats are vacant.
